The Cisco IOS 'do' Command

Here's a Cisco tip that may be useful:

Many moons ago when I worked for UUNET in Engineering one of the features that we pressed Cisco to implement in IOS was the ability to perform exec commands from within the config editor. We were always informed that it had been looked into but that it was not possible due to the design of IOS. Well the design must have changed because, since versions 12.1(11b)E, 12.2(7)B, 12.2(7)PB, 12.0(20)SP, 12.0(20)ST, 12.0(21)S and 12.2(8)T, the 'do' command was introduced. This allows exec commands to be run e.g. 'sh run' from within the config editor. This is particularly useful for running 'do sh run int fe0/0' while in the interface section of the config editor to check the interface commands for example.

Try it on your box, it's very useful.

As always, if you are having network problems, give us a call.
