Financial Trading Solution Provider Deploys Low Latency Solution for Global Clients' Trading Applications
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 7, 2010 — Juniper Networks® (NYSE: JNPR) today announced that Atrium Network, a provider of smarter connectivity for the global financial community, has implemented more than 300 network end points using Juniper Networks switching, routing and security solutions. Atrium Network's new network provides an ultra low-latency, high-performance platform for a wide range of trading and market data applications, plus Extranet access for its global clients across Europe, North and South America.
Using Juniper Networks EX Series Ethernet Switches, Juniper Networks SRX Series Services Gateways and Juniper Networks J Series Services Routers, Atrium Network provides access to their "Exchange Ring," a fabric of fiber connectivity to all the main stock exchanges and trading venues across Europe, North America and South America which provides the basis of the Atrium Network's Extranet. The Atrium Network Extranet connects multiple venues, brokers, market data providers, independent software vendors, clearance, settlement and depository allowing clients access to all parts of the trading life cycle.
"Being able to provide low latency networking is a fundamental differentiator in the financial services industry. Our clients are making split-second trading decisions that involve millions of dollars, so we need to offer a connectivity solution that minimizes delay," said Emmanuel Carjat, chief executive officer, Atrium Network. "We chose Juniper's solution because of its demonstrable track record in supporting the world's most advanced trading platforms. Our customers need an efficient and effective way to access multiple global locations across our network and we need to ensure that we offer fast, robust, secure and fully scalable connectivity for our international trading customers."
Using Juniper devices at client locations, Atrium Network is able to offer a broad range of access options to the "Exchange Ring." The SRX Series provides secure access to the network for price-sensitive clients, while clients wanting a higher-performing device may use the J Series, and for the most latency intolerant clients, the EX Series is used as the low latency connection device. Customers can then access multiple locations across the network such as a cash equity venue in New York or a futures platform in London and trade multiple asset classes including Cash Equities, FX and derivatives enabling trading of multiple asset classes through their broker irrespective of geographic location.
"Juniper Networks supports a growing number of the world's most advanced financial services organizations in delivering financial applications and services over networking solutions that provide performance, security and reliability needed to gain a competitive advantage," said Abner Germanow, director of enterprise marketing, Juniper Networks. "Customers like Atrium Network need to know they can rely on the network to scale as high frequency traders demand increasing levels of bandwidth to handle the volumes of data being accessed, without adding complexity or compromising on the speed and resilience that a trading day demands."
Powered by Junos® software, the EX Series switches provide high-performance, carrier-class connectivity for remote and branch offices, enabling fast and secure access to office applications and services. The SRX Series provides the essential capabilities necessary to connect, secure, and manage enterprise and service provider networks. The J Series offers secure, reliable high-performance network connectivity to branch and regional offices.
Juniper's partner for the Atrium Network deployment was igxglobal, a leading network integrator in the field of low and ultra low latency networks, working with leading market data exchanges, financial extranet providers, and other financial service organizations.

SUNNYVALE, Calif., September 7, 2010 — Juniper Networks® (NYSE: JNPR) today announced that the Shaanxi provincial arm of China Mobile (NYSE: CHL, SEHK: 0941) has upgraded its Internet data center with Juniper's New Network based on the Junos® operating system to ensure the subscriber experience and improve the economics of the rapidly growing network. The deployment of Juniper Networks' routers, switches and security solutions provides China Mobile Shaanxi with a high-performance, low-latency and energy-efficient data center fabric with ample scalability and security to meet the expanding bandwidth and service delivery needs of their subscribers.
The rapid rollout of 3G networks is fueling demand for data center-hosted services, including rich mobile multimedia and unified messaging applications, necessitating the build out of a new data center for China Mobile Shaanxi. Implementation of the Juniper solution enables mainland China's largest mobile provider to leverage Junos in an enterprise data center environment to support the reliable delivery of new mobile applications.
"China Mobile Shaanxi has long been a Juniper customer, but this significant project takes us beyond the established confines of the carrier network and into the data center with them for the first time," said Mike Marcellin, vice president of product marketing, Infrastructure Products and Junos Ready Software at Juniper Networks. "Automation is vital to implementing security and simplicity across the new network and, with Junos as the single operating system running across the data center infrastructure, China Mobile Shaanxi can streamline operations, eliminate downtime and enable the network to be used at its maximum potential."
China Mobile Shaanxi has deployed Juniper Networks MX960 Universal Edge Routers for its data center core routing, offering a high level of redundancy with total system capacity of up to 2.6 Tbps. Juniper Networks EX4200 Ethernet Switches, deployed in a Virtual Chassis fabric configuration, provide the data center with a scalable, high-density Gigabit Ethernet switching fabric, while Juniper Networks SRX3600 Services Gateways provide a highly-reliable security solution.
In addition to providing an essential performance boost and superior scalability, the Juniper "3-2-1" data center network architecture delivers very low latency by eliminating the need for an aggregation layer-a primary source of complexity in the network. Junos further reduces complexity through the integration of routing, switching, security and network services in a single operating system.
A commissioned study conducted by Forrester Consulting in February 2009 on behalf of Juniper Networks demonstrated that through the use of Junos and Juniper switches and routers, companies achieved reductions in operational costs for specific network operations tasks, including planning, provisioning and deployment as well as planned and unplanned network events. Among other top-line results, the study reported a 41 percent reduction in overall network operations costs based on dollar savings across specific task categories. For additional study results, see "The Total Economic ImpactTM of Juniper Networks Junos Network Operating System."
